The Final Bottling
On Saturday October 10, coinciding with our Annual Verdelho/Fortified tasting, our oldest ever single Vintage Liqueur was released.
John Jens officially released the 1969 Liqueur Tokay and we celebrated this proud moment for our family and Winery with a toast and tasting of this precious 40 year old wine amongst wine club members, family and friends at Belvoir Function Centre in the Swan Valley.
The first release of this stunning wine was 10 years ago. Two Old Brandy Casks were set aside for a further 10 years maturation, with the final bottling on October 7, 2009.
Bottle numbers 2569 – 3569 are individually signed by my Father, the original Winemaker Peter Talijancich, signifying the bottle number and release date.
This was an incredibly nervous but rewarding moment to know that this world class Liqueur has been bottled for the final time.
It is extremely rare to find old ‘Vintage’ liqueurs anywhere in the world. Fortified winemakers are more likely to use these wines for blending, as we do, but occasionally the individual wine can be as complete and balanced as some blends.
Incredibly concentrated with layer upon layer of flavour, rich toffee, chocolate and almost molasses in consistency, but most importantly a degree of freshness and persistence on the palate. A small number will be kept for our family with the remainder available through cellar door at $400.00 each.
We are proud to say that the quality of this wine has already been recognised at the recent Swan Valley Wine Show, winning the award for ‘Best Fortified Wine’ and also ‘Wine of the Show’. |
